Coal-Fired Power Plants

The Polaris capture process requires no steam extraction, so it is less disruptive to power plant operations compared to alternatives. Moreover, Polaris recovers water from flue gas, greatly reducing overall water demand compared to aqueous solvent capture technologies. This feature is particularly advantageous for plants located in arid regions with scarce water resources.

Natural-Gas Fired Power Plants

Polaris membranes are a modular technology with high turndown potential and rapid response times. This makes Polaris ideal for gas plants that produce variable output over time due to load following. MTR carbon capture also offers a unique, patented process design called selective exhaust gas recycle (SEGR) that improves the economics of capture from low CO2 content streams like those typically produced by gas turbines.

Cement & Lime Plants

Polaris capture membranes are particularly well suited for higher CO2 content streams like those produced in the cement and lime industries. The relatively high CO2 concentration results in smaller Polaris systems producing larger cost savings compared to alternative capture approaches. The modularity and rapid response times of Polaris systems are also beneficial for the intermittent operations sometimes experienced in these industries.

Steel Plants

Similar to cement, steel facilities also typically produce flue gas streams with relatively high CO2 content, where Polaris systems excel in providing cost savings. The modular nature and flexible footprint of Polaris systems are particularly helpful in steel facilities that often have multiple process gas sources and serious space constraints.

Waste-To-Energy

Polaris capture systems use no hazardous chemicals and produce no secondary emissions. These environmental advantages are important for waste-to-energy plants that are often located in urban areas in close proximity to residential sectors. Polaris systems also offer heat integration options that can be valuable for district heating.

Refineries

The modularity and flexible footprint of Polaris systems can be of great value in refineries, which are often crowded with limited space for new equipment. As with other industrial sources, the relatively high CO2 content produced by some refinery processes (like SMR blue hydrogen production) result in significant cost savings for Polaris capture systems.

Our Technology

The Polaris Membrane provides a carbon capture solution that is effective, scalable, cleaner and adaptable to a variety of industrial applications.
